PDF to JPG High Quality: 150 vs 300 DPI (2026)

“High quality PDF to JPG” usually means people want print-sharp pixels, not a 92% slider on a 72 DPI canvas. FlashKit Tools labels resolution as 72 / 150 / 300 DPI and sizes the canvas with points × (DPI ÷ 72) — the usual points-to-pixels formula for print resolution. The older 1× / 2× / 3× labels (72 / 144 / 216) are gone. The file is not uploaded.

This post is the DPI decision. Exporting a single page as one JPG is convert one page of a PDF to JPG. Hitting a KB cap is target size per page.

Export PDF pages at 150 or 300 DPI

Pick 72, 150, or 300. One page is a single JPG. Encrypted PDFs are rejected.

Verified pixel sizes

These are the canvas sizes the tool draws for a standard page (rounded to whole pixels):

Page Points 72 DPI 150 DPI 300 DPI
A4 portrait 595.28 × 841.89 595 × 842 1240 × 1754 2480 × 3508
Letter portrait 612 × 792 612 × 792 1275 × 1650 2550 × 3300

A landscape page swaps width and height. After convert, each thumbnail shows the measured W×H so you can confirm the math on your file.

The same A4 page 2 in our 4 November 2026 headless Chrome run measured:

  • 72 DPI: 595×842 px, 9,428 bytes, 235 ms
  • 150 DPI: 1240×1754 px, 27,259 bytes, 233 ms
  • 300 DPI: 2480×3508 px, 78,862 bytes, 239 ms

Those pixel sizes match round(points × DPI / 72). File size is not 4× from 150 to 300 because JPEG quantization is not linear — but pixel count is exactly 4× (2× on each edge). Times are after the PDF was already inspected; the first convert on a cold tab also loads PDF.js.

150 vs 300 — which to pick

  • 72 DPI: screen, chat, a slide still. Smallest RAM and file.
  • 150 DPI (default): letters, receipts, most forms. Readable body text on a laptop without an 8 MP raster.
  • 300 DPI: print, a signature you will crop, small type. Four times the pixels of 150 (2× on each edge), so four times the RAM and usually a much larger JPEG.

Quality is a separate slider. It only changes JPEG quantization. Start near 90%. Below 70% you see blocks; 100% is rarely worth the extra kilobytes once DPI is already 300.

Step-by-step

  1. Open PDF to JPG and drop an unlocked PDF.
  2. Select pages. Leave all selected to export the whole file; one page downloads as a single JPG.
  3. Choose 150 or 300 DPI. Convert. Read the pixel line on the thumbnail.
  4. If the JPEG is still too heavy for email, switch to Target Size or run the file through the image compressor / PDF compressor first.

Memory and honesty

A 40-page scan at 300 DPI is 40 canvases around 2480×3508. That is fine on a laptop and painful on a phone. Use 72 or 150, or export only the pages you need. Closing the tab drops the bytes. This is not OCR and not PDF to Word. Digital signatures become a picture of the page.

Need those JPEGs back in a packet? JPG to PDF will embed them on A4 or Letter without cropping.
