This exporter draws selected pages of a PDF onto a canvas in the current tab with PDF.js, then encodes JPEG files you can download one-by-one or as a ZIP. FlashKit never receives the document. There is no conversion API. That is the point if the file is a signed contract, a bank statement, or a lab report you only want as pictures on this device. Encrypted or password PDFs are rejected up front — the same rule as Split and Compress — so we never ask for a password to decrypt them.

Drop an unlocked PDF. Type a page range such as 1-3, 5 or click page thumbnails (they render after the file is added, not on first paint). When exactly one page is selected, you download a single JPG instead of a ZIP. Choose JPEG quality (40–100%, default 92%) and a resolution labelled in DPI: 72 DPI for screen, 150 DPI as the default, 300 DPI for print. Pixel size is PDF points × (DPI ÷ 72). An A4 page (595.28 × 841.89 pt) is about 1240 × 1754 px at 150 DPI and 2480 × 3508 px at 300 DPI. A 25 MB warning appears because a phone tab can freeze on a long scan; there is no server quota.

Rasterizing is a one-way flatten. Selectable text, vectors, and form fields become pixels. This is not OCR and not “PDF to Word.” A 300-page textbook at 3× will create 300 large JPEGs — fine on a laptop, painful on a low-memory phone. Digital signatures are not preserved as signatures; you get a picture of the page. Bookmarks do not carry over because the output is images, not a PDF package.

Common jobs: convert one page of a PDF to JPG for a form; a slide as a social still; a signed page for a chat app that rejects PDF; a scan you want to markup in a photo editor. You no longer need to Split first just to export pages 2–4 of a 40-page file — select those pages here. If the file is huge because of embedded photos, try the compressor before you export. Going the other way — pictures to one PDF — is JPG to PDF. Pair with the image compressor if the JPEGs are still heavy for email.

Closing the tab revokes object URLs and drops the bytes from memory. We do not keep a history of files. Ads are separate from PDF.js. Compared with ILovePDF or Smallpdf PDF-to-JPG, the honest difference is local rendering and documented limits, not a 2 GB cloud queue. Read the FlashKit vs ILovePDF and best-free-PDF-tools guides if you are choosing an exporter for a confidential file.

How to convert a PDF to JPG in the browser

  1. Drop an unlocked PDF. Encrypted files stop with an error. Nothing is uploaded to FlashKit.
  2. Type a page range (1-3, 5) or click thumbnails. Leave all pages selected to export the whole file.
  3. Set JPEG quality (start near 90%) and DPI: 72, 150, or 300.
  4. Click Convert to JPG. One selected page downloads as a single JPG; several pages become a ZIP.
  5. Change file to start over. Closing the tab drops the images from memory.

Key Features

  • Client-side PDF.js raster — no FlashKit upload
  • Page range or thumbnail selection; single JPG when one page is chosen
  • 72 / 150 / 300 DPI with pixel math of points × (DPI ÷ 72)
  • Quality slider (40–100%) and optional target size per page (50–500 KB)
  • Encrypted PDFs rejected; 25 MB memory warning; not OCR

What stays in the browser

  • pdf-lib inspects the file first (same encrypted-file refusal as Split). PDF.js then draws pages on a canvas in this tab.
  • JPEG bytes are built with the Canvas API. They are not posted to a FlashKit server.
  • A closed or crashed tab revokes object URLs and drops the in-memory copies. Download first.
  • Very large or page-heavy PDFs can exhaust RAM on a phone. Use 72 DPI or export only the pages you need.
  • Other FlashKit tools (SEO audit, social downloaders, Gemini captions) do use the network after a notice.

Quality, scale, and when to split first

  • Quality controls JPEG compression only. It does not add pixels. 90%+ is high quality; below 70% shows more artifacts.
  • DPI sets resolution. Pixels = PDF points × (DPI ÷ 72). 150 DPI is the default for slides and letters. 300 DPI is for print or fine crop.
  • If you only need pages 2–4 of a 40-page file, select those pages here — you do not have to Split first.
  • A scan that is already a JPEG inside the PDF is re-encoded. You may lose a little quality; you gain a plain .jpg.
  • Email size: compress the PDF first, or export at 72 DPI, or send only the pages that matter.

Limits and related tools

  • Not OCR. You cannot search the JPG for the original PDF text.
  • Password PDFs are refused. Unlock a copy in a desktop reader first.
  • CMYK, unusual fonts, or optional content groups may render differently than Acrobat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set a target size per page in KB?

Yes. Switch to Target Size mode and pick 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB per page. Each page is compressed independently to that limit.

Does PDF to JPG upload my file?

No. Pages are drawn with PDF.js in this tab after a local inspect. FlashKit does not receive the PDF. Close the tab to drop it from memory.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Not here. Unlock it in a desktop reader and use the unlocked copy. This tool will not ask for or store a password.

What do quality and DPI change?

Quality is JPEG compression (40–100%). DPI is resolution: 72, 150, or 300. Pixels = PDF points × (DPI ÷ 72). DPI changes pixel count; quality changes how hard those pixels are compressed.

Is this OCR or PDF to Word?

No. You get pictures of pages. Text is not extracted into an editable document. See the PDF to Word guide if you need that different pipeline.

How do I convert one page of a PDF to JPG?

Type that page number, or click its thumbnail so only one page is selected. Convert, then download the single JPG — there is no ZIP when exactly one page is exported. Several pages still download as a ZIP.
