This page converts an annual cost-to-company figure into monthly and annual take-home for a resident salaried individual in Financial Year 2026-27 (Tax Year 2026-27 under the Income-tax Act, 2025; Assessment Year 2027-28). Enter CTC, the basic-salary percentage of that CTC, whether employee and employer provident fund should be capped at the statutory ₹15,000 monthly wage ceiling, annual professional tax, and optional other payroll deductions. Toggle the new tax regime (default) or the old regime. The calculator reuses the same slab, 87A, surcharge, and 4% Health and Education Cess engine as the India income-tax calculator. Everything runs in this browser tab. FlashKit does not store the numbers, does not talk to your payroll vendor, and does not replace a Form 16.

The cash-flow identity is simple. Employer PF is treated as part of CTC but not as cash salary, so taxable gross starts at CTC minus employer PF. Employee PF (12% of basic, or 12% of the ₹15,000 ceiling when the cap is on) and professional tax leave the monthly slip. Optional other deductions — a meal card, extra insurance — also reduce take-home and are not sent into 80C. Income tax is computed on the remaining gross after the regime’s standard deduction (₹75,000 new, ₹50,000 old). New-regime 87A can still wipe tax when taxable income stays at or under ₹12 lakh. Old-regime tax on this page applies employee PF under section 80C and professional tax as an other deduction; it does not auto-apply HRA. Use the HRA calculator first if you need that exemption.

Worked example that matches the default fields. CTC ₹12,00,000, basic 40% (₹4,80,000), PF capped at ₹15,000 a month, professional tax ₹2,500, no other deductions, new regime. Employer and employee PF are each 12% of ₹1,80,000 = ₹21,600. Taxable gross is ₹11,78,400. After the ₹75,000 standard deduction, taxable income is ₹11,03,400, which sits under the ₹12 lakh 87A ceiling, so income tax and cess are nil. Annual in-hand is ₹12,00,000 − ₹21,600 − ₹21,600 − ₹2,500 = ₹11,54,300, or about ₹96,192 a month. Turn the PF cap off and each PF side becomes 12% of ₹4,80,000 = ₹57,600; tax is still nil and in-hand falls to ₹10,84,800 because more of CTC is locked in PF.

A taxed check at CTC ₹18,00,000, basic 40%, PF capped, professional tax ₹2,500, new regime: employer PF ₹21,600, taxable gross ₹17,78,400, taxable income ₹17,03,400 after the standard deduction. Slab tax plus 4% cess is whatever the shared income-tax engine prints (the unit tests pin the identity, not a brochure). Annual in-hand is CTC minus both PF sides, professional tax, and that tax. Switch to the old regime on the same CTC and employee PF (₹21,600) enters 80C while professional tax reduces old-regime taxable income; HRA and 80D are still zero here — open the income-tax calculator if you have those claims. Finance Bill, 2026 left FY 2026-27 slab rates unchanged from the Finance Act, 2025 / AY 2026-27 structure the department still publishes.

The fields match this article. Annual CTC defaults to 12,00,000. Basic defaults to 40% of CTC. The PF ceiling checkbox starts on because that is the statutory EPF wage. Professional tax defaults to ₹2,500 as a common Maharashtra-style annual figure — set 0 if your state charges none. Other deductions default to 0 and reduce take-home only. New regime is selected until you pick old. Copy summary writes CTC, both PF lines, tax, and monthly in-hand plus a “not tax advice” line. Closing the tab clears the inputs. Pair this page with the HRA calculator, the income-tax comparison, EMI, SIP, FD, PPF, and the GST tools; those are formula neighbours, not a payroll file.

How to estimate India take-home salary

  1. Enter annual CTC in rupees (for example 1200000). Do not type commas.
  2. Set basic as a percent of CTC. Forty percent is a common structure, not a rule.
  3. Leave the ₹15,000 PF wage-ceiling cap on for statutory EPF, or turn it off to model 12% of full basic.
  4. Enter annual professional tax (default 2500) and any other take-home deductions. Pick new (default) or old regime.
  5. Read monthly and annual in-hand and the breakdown. Copy summary if you need the figures elsewhere, then confirm with Form 16 and a CA.

Key Features

  • FY 2026-27 / AY 2027-28 engine shared with the income-tax calculator
  • New regime default (₹75,000 standard deduction, 87A) or old (₹50,000 + PF 80C)
  • Employer and employee PF at 12%, optional ₹15,000/month wage cap
  • Professional tax and other take-home deductions plus 4% cess
  • Monthly and annual in-hand breakdown — local, not tax advice

What this take-home math includes — and skips

  • Employer PF leaves CTC before cash salary. Employee PF leaves the slip. That is the usual India CTC illustration, not every private payroll code.
  • Gratuity (often 4.81% of basic), variable pay, joining bonus, ESOP, and employer NPS 80CCD(2) are not fields. Subtract a known gratuity from CTC yourself if your offer includes it.
  • HRA exemption is not applied automatically. Compute it on the HRA page, then either stay on this simplified take-home or move the salary into the income-tax calculator.
  • Professional tax is a state levy. The ₹2,500 default is only a planning placeholder. Karnataka, West Bengal, and others use different annual totals.
  • Monthly in-hand is annual in-hand ÷ 12. Real slips vary in March when leftover TDS or a bonus hits.

New regime vs old regime on a salary slip

  • New regime is the default for FY 2026-27. Standard deduction ₹75,000. 87A can make taxable income up to ₹12 lakh (salary about ₹12.75 lakh after that deduction) tax-free.
  • Old regime uses ₹50,000 standard deduction and, on this page, employee PF under 80C plus professional tax. Large HRA, 80D, and 24(b) claims need the full income-tax calculator.
  • A lower tax on the old side does not mean higher in-hand if you also have a large employee PF — PF is not cash, even when it cuts tax.
  • Surcharge starts above ₹50 lakh of taxable income. Most CTC figures on this form never reach it; the shared engine still applies it if you type a huge CTC.

Tips and honest limits

  • Do not type monthly CTC in the annual box. Multiply first.
  • If your offer splits basic, HRA, special allowance, and employer PF in writing, this page still needs only CTC and a basic %. It will not reconstruct every allowance line.
  • Copy the summary before you refresh. Nothing is saved.
  • Sources: Income Tax Department salaried-individual help for AY 2026-27; Finance Bill, 2026 memorandum (FY 2026-27 rates unchanged); EPF wage ceiling ₹15,000/month.
  • This is arithmetic, not a payroll file, not Form 16, and not personalised tax advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which financial year does this in-hand calculator use?

FY 2026-27 / Tax Year 2026-27 (AY 2027-28), the same engine as the FlashKit income-tax calculator. Slabs, 87A, and the ₹75,000 / ₹50,000 standard deductions match Finance Act, 2025 / AY 2026-27 and were left unchanged by Finance Bill, 2026. Confirm before you file.

How is in-hand salary calculated here?

In-hand = CTC − employer PF − employee PF − professional tax − other deductions − income tax (including 4% cess). Employer PF is removed from CTC before tax. Default example: CTC ₹12 lakh, basic 40%, PF capped, PT ₹2,500, new regime → about ₹96,192 a month because 87A wipes the tax.

Is the new tax regime the default?

Yes. New-regime slabs start at a ₹4 lakh nil band with a ₹75,000 standard deduction and 87A up to ₹12 lakh taxable. Old regime is a toggle: ₹50,000 standard deduction, employee PF under 80C, professional tax deducted for tax.

What does the PF wage-ceiling checkbox do?

Statutory EPF is 12% of wages up to ₹15,000 a month (₹1,800 each for employer and employee). Tick the box to cap both sides there. Untick it to model 12% of your full basic — some private trusts still do that.

Does this include HRA exemption?

No. HRA is old-regime only and needs its own least-of-three math. Use the HRA calculator, then the income-tax calculator, if that exemption changes your tax. This page keeps take-home identity readable.

Is my CTC uploaded or stored?

No. Math runs in this tab. Closing or refreshing drops the inputs. Ads are separate from the calculator. This is not personalised tax or payroll advice.
