QR Code Print Size Guide: How Big Should Your QR Code Be?

QR Code Print Size Guide: How Big Should Your QR Code Be?

A QR code that is too small will not scan. This guide gives you exact sizes for common print scenarios — from business cards to billboards.

The 10:1 rule of thumb

Scan distance ÷ 10 = minimum QR side length. From 30 cm (arm's length), at least 3 cm. From 1 meter (a poster), at least 10 cm.

  • Business card: 1.5–2 cm (scanned from 15–25 cm)
  • Product label / receipt: 2–3 cm (scanned from 20–30 cm)
  • Table tent / menu: 3–5 cm (scanned from 30–50 cm)
  • A4 flyer / invoice: 3–4 cm
  • Poster (A3–A1): 10–20 cm (scanned from 1–2 m)
  • Billboard: 50–150 cm (scanned from 5–15 m)

Generate a high-resolution QR code

Download up to 2048 × 2048 px for print. PNG, SVG, JPEG, or WEBP.

Resolution matters too

A 3 cm QR printed at 72 DPI is blurry. Download at 1024+ px and let the printer scale. The FlashKit QR generator lets you download up to 2048 px.

Quiet zone: do not crop the white border

The white margin around a QR code is called the "quiet zone." It tells scanners where the code starts. The standard minimum is 4 modules. Never crop it — the code will fail.

FAQ

Can I print a QR code smaller than 1 cm?

Reliability drops fast. Standard cameras struggle under ~1.5 cm.

Does adding a logo change the minimum size?

Yes, slightly. Logos require H-level error correction, which increases density. Print ~10% larger.
