Convert Text to Binary (Unicode)

People search “binary converter” and expect letters in, 0s and 1s out. FlashKit’s binary converter does that — with one honest limit: each character becomes its Unicode code point printed in base 2, not the UTF-8 byte sequence, not hex, and not octal. The page is a text-to-binary translator for classrooms and short protocol notes, not a firmware viewer.

Worked example: Hello World

Keep the default sample. You should see eleven tokens:

1001000 1100101 1101100 1101100 1101111 100000 1010111 1101111 1110010 1101100 1100100

That is H e l l o, a space, W o r l d. Change the first token to 1001001 and the text becomes “Iello World” because 1001001 is “I”. Decoding splits on spaces or commas, runs parseInt(token, 2), and uses String.fromCodePoint. A token with a 2 or a letter shows a red error and leaves the last good text in place.

Unicode code points, spaces between tokens. No upload, no firmware mode.

Code points versus UTF-8 bytes

“A” is 1000001 in both views. “é” is one code point (11101001 for U+00E9) but two UTF-8 bytes (11000011 10101001). The euro sign is one token here and three UTF-8 bytes elsewhere. If your homework wants padded 8-bit bytes, write the zeros yourself — this page omits them the way Number.toString(2) omits them.

Same family, different base: letters to hex, text to ASCII, text to decimal. If the paste looks like SGVsbG8=, that is Base64 — see the Base64 encoding guide, not this converter.

Limits

  • Do not drop a PNG or a firmware .bin here. Use a hex editor.
  • Very long pastes can freeze the tab. Split the work.
  • Nothing is stored. Refresh restores “Hello World.”

Frequently asked questions

Is this a UTF-8 binary converter?

No. Each token is the character’s Unicode code point in base 2. ASCII letters can coincide with one UTF-8 byte; emoji and non-Latin often do not.

Why are there no leading zeros?

Tokens use JavaScript’s toString(2), which drops leading zeros. 1000001 and 01000001 decode to the same number. Pad in your homework if the sheet wants 8 bits.

Can I decode a .bin firmware file?

No. Use a hex editor. This page is for short strings in the current tab.
