Better Browser Transcription Accuracy (Audio Quality)

People ask how to make a free in-browser transcript “more accurate.” The honest answer is boring: the model on FlashKit’s transcriber is whisper-base. You cannot switch it to whisper-large on this page. What you can change is the recording, the language code, and the length of the file you feed it.
What moves the draft
- Mic distance. A headset or a phone on the table next to the speaker beats a camera at the back of a hall.
- One talker, little music. Overlap and a loud bed are where the model invents words. This page does not label speakers.
- Language picker. If you know it is Marathi, pick Marathi. Auto detect on a mixed clip is a common miss. The verified Indic list is in Bengali / Marathi / Kannada audio to text.
- Length. Long files on a phone run out of memory. Cut with the audio cutter. We have not published a guaranteed hour-long phone path.
Run the local draft
whisper-base in the tab. First visit ~77 MB. No FlashKit upload.
Open the transcriberPrep the file
Export WAV or a high-bitrate M4A when you can. The audio converter can write WAV locally if the browser refuses the original container. Do not expect a 64 kbps voice memo from a pocket to match a lav mic.
Timed subtitles are a separate download — see SRT/VTT timestamps. The no-account video walkthrough is transcribe video to text free.
What we will not print
No “98% accurate on every accent.” No claim that the first run is instant. The first run downloads the model; later runs reuse the Cache API. Proofread every proper noun. This is not a legal transcript.
Frequently asked questions
Will a larger Whisper model appear on this page?
Not today. The worker ships Xenova/whisper-base (quantized, about 77 MB). A larger checkpoint would raise the first-run download and the chance of a tab crash on phones.
Does noise reduction run before the model?
No. The page resamples to 16 kHz mono. It does not run a separate denoise network. Clean the room or the export instead.
Why is the second file faster?
The weights stay in the browser Cache API (transformers-cache). The second file skips that download. Clearing site data forces another 77 MB fetch.
