Split PDF

This splitter copies pages out of a PDF entirely in the current browser tab using pdf-lib. FlashKit never receives the file. There is no conversion API and no “upload to cloud then download” hop. That is the point if the document is a signed contract, a bank statement, or a lab report you only want to share in pieces.

Drop an unlocked PDF. The tool reads the page count locally and, for multi-page files, prefills a range such as 1–N. Type ranges the way people already write them: 1-3, 5, 8-10. Pages are 1-based. The word all keeps every page (useful when you only want per-page files). Encrypted or password PDFs are rejected — unlock a copy in a desktop reader first. Files over about 25 MB show a warning because a phone tab can freeze; there is no server quota, only your device memory.

Three output modes match the radios above the button. Combined: one PDF with the selected pages in order. Per-range: 1-3 and 5 become two files. Per-page: every selected page is its own PDF, then a ZIP is offered when more than one file is produced. Bookmarks, some AcroForm fields, attachments, and digital signatures often do not survive a page copy. Treat this as a page extractor, not a full PDF package editor.

Common jobs: email a chapter because of an attachment cap; send a client only the signed pages; burst a scan into one file per sheet. If you need one file from many, use Merge PDF instead. If the whole file is just too heavy, try the PDF compressor before you split. Rotate first if a subset of pages is sideways. None of those tools upload to FlashKit either.

Closing the tab revokes the object URLs and drops the bytes from memory. We do not keep a history of files. Ads on the page are separate from pdf-lib. If a site claims it can split a password PDF “in the cloud,” that is a different privacy model — this page will not do that.

How to Use

  1. Drop a PDF or click to choose. Processing stays in this tab. Encrypted files stop with an error.
  2. Enter page ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10, or type all. Pages are numbered from 1.
  3. Choose one combined PDF, one PDF per range, or one PDF per selected page.
  4. Click Split PDF. Download each file, or Download all as ZIP when several outputs appear.
  5. Open the result and check page order before you send it. Change file to start over with another document.

Key Features

  • Client-side pdf-lib page copy — no FlashKit upload
  • Ranges, single pages, or all pages (1-based)
  • Combined file, one file per range, or one file per page plus ZIP
  • Honest errors for password-protected PDFs; 25 MB memory warning
  • Pairs with merge, rotate, compress, and Word-to-PDF on the same site

What stays in the browser

  • The PDF is read with pdf-lib in this tab. Bytes are not posted to a FlashKit server.
  • Encrypted documents are refused. We do not collect a password to decrypt them.
  • A closed or crashed tab drops the in-memory copy. Download before you leave.
  • Very large files can exhaust RAM on a phone. Split on a desktop browser or compress first.
  • Other FlashKit tools (SEO audit, social downloaders, Gemini captions) do use the network after a notice. Do not treat the whole site as never-sends-data.

When to split vs merge vs compress

  • Split when you need fewer pages than you started with (a chapter, a signed leaf, one sheet per file).
  • Merge when you need one PDF from several (the opposite job). See the merge vs split guide.
  • Compress when the page count is fine but the byte size is not. See compress vs split for email size.
  • Rotate when pages are sideways before you extract them so the client does not have to twist a phone.
  • Compared with Smallpdf or ILovePDF, this page’s promise is local processing and documented limits — not a 2 GB cloud queue. Read the FlashKit vs Smallpdf guide.

Limits and tips

  • Bookmarks and outlines usually do not carry over. Re-apply them in a desktop editor if they matter.
  • Digital signatures are typically invalidated by any rewrite. Split a copy, not the only signed original.
  • Ranges that point past the last page fail with an error rather than silently dropping them.
  • Per-page on a 200-page scan will create 200 files and a ZIP — fine on a laptop, painful on a low-memory phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Split PDF upload my file?

No. Pages are copied with pdf-lib in this tab. FlashKit does not receive the PDF. Close the tab to drop it from memory.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not here. Unlock it in a desktop reader and use the unlocked copy. This tool will not ask for or store a password.

How do I extract pages 1–3 and page 7?

Type 1-3, 7 in Page ranges. Choose Combined for one file, or Per-range for a 1–3 file plus a one-page file. Per-page emits four files (pages 1, 2, 3, and 7).

Will bookmarks and signatures survive?

Usually not. Treat this as a page extractor. Rewriting a signed PDF typically invalidates the signature.

Is there a page or file-size limit?

There is no server quota. Files over about 25 MB warn that a phone may freeze. Split in batches on mobile.

Split or compress for email size?

If the recipient only needs some pages, split. If they need the whole document but it is too heavy, compress. The compress vs split guide walks through both.
