How to Split a PDF Free in the Browser (2026)

You do not need a desktop Acrobat license to pull pages 1–3 out of a 40-page scan. FlashKit’s Split PDF tool copies the pages you type with pdf-lib in this tab. Nothing is sent to FlashKit. That is the right default for a signed contract, a lab report, or a bank statement you only want to share in pieces.

When splitting is the right job

Step-by-step

  1. Unlock the PDF in a desktop reader if it is password-protected. The tool rejects encrypted files on purpose.
  2. Open Split PDF and drop the file. Files over 25 MB can freeze a phone tab — use a desktop browser for those.
  3. Enter 1-based ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. Type all only if you want every page in the output mode you pick.
  4. Choose output: one combined PDF of the selection, one PDF per range, or one PDF per selected page.
  5. Download the PDF or the ZIP when there are several files. Open the result and check page order before you send it.

Limits worth stating

  • Bookmarks, some AcroForm fields, attachments, and digital signatures usually do not survive a page copy.
  • There is no server quota. A huge scan can still exhaust tab memory.
  • Splitting does not shrink JPEG photos. If the same pages are still too heavy, run them through the PDF compressor.

What stays in the browser

FlashKit’s split, rotate, merge, compress, and Word-to-PDF tools run in the current tab with pdf-lib (Word-to-PDF also unzips the .docx locally). Those pages do not upload the file to FlashKit. Encrypted PDFs are rejected. A crashed or closed tab drops the in-memory copy. Other FlashKit tools — SEO audits, social downloaders, Gemini captions — do use the network after a disclosure. Do not treat the whole site as “never sends data.”
