Rotate PDF
This rotator turns pages of a PDF in the current tab with pdf-lib. It sets each chosen page’s rotate flag — 90, 180, or 270 degrees clockwise — and writes a new file you can download. The original is not uploaded to FlashKit. Encrypted PDFs are rejected. Digital signatures are typically invalidated by any rewrite, so work on a copy if the signature still matters.
The range field defaults to all. Leave it if every page is sideways (a common phone-scan problem). To fix only some pages, type 2, 4-6 the same way as the splitter: 1-based numbers, commas, hyphens. The three angle buttons are clockwise. Two clicks of 90° equal 180°; there is no separate “counter-clockwise” control — pick 270° to go the other way in one step.
Rotation here is a page attribute, not a re-encode of pixels. Selectable text usually stays selectable. A scan that was saved upside-down as an image may still look wrong if the pixels themselves are inverted and the rotate flag was already used — in that case you need an image editor, not another flag. This page does not OCR, flatten, or compress. Pair it with Split PDF if you only need the rotated pages, or with the compressor if the file is also huge.
Files over about 25 MB show a memory warning. There is no cloud queue to rescue a low-end phone. Bookmarks may not survive. After download, open the PDF in a reader and check orientation before you send it; some viewers cache the previous rotate flag until you close the file.
Compared with ILovePDF or Smallpdf, FlashKit’s rotate tool is deliberately local and limited: three clockwise angles, ranges, no account, no file sitting on a server. That is the right trade for a passport scan or a marked-up contract. It is the wrong trade if you need a batch API or a 2 GB job. The FlashKit vs ILovePDF and best-free-PDF-tools guides spell out those differences.
How to Use
- Drop an unlocked PDF. Encrypted files fail with an error; nothing is uploaded.
- Leave the range as all, or type the sideways pages (for example 7 or 2, 4-6).
- Pick 90°, 180°, or 270° clockwise. Use 270° if you wanted a single counter-clockwise quarter turn.
- Click Rotate. Download the new file and check orientation in a reader.
- Change file to rotate a different document. Closing the tab drops the bytes from memory.
Key Features
- Local pdf-lib rotation — no FlashKit storage
- All pages or selected ranges (1-based)
- 90 / 180 / 270 degrees clockwise
- Clear errors for encrypted documents; 25 MB warning
- Does not flatten pages to images; text usually stays selectable
How rotation is applied
- pdf-lib updates the page rotate attribute. It does not rasterize each page into a JPEG.
- Clockwise only. 270° clockwise is a 90° turn the other way.
- Ranges use the same grammar as Split PDF: 1-3, 5 or all.
- A previous rotate flag is added to, not photographed over. If a page is already at 90°, another 90° makes 180°.
- Signatures, XFA forms, and some annotations can break. Test a copy.
Common rotate jobs
- Phone scans where page 1 is landscape and the rest are portrait — rotate page 1 only.
- A mixed deck from a copier that fed some sheets upside down (180°).
- Landscape slides exported as a portrait PDF that you want to read on a monitor.
- Fix orientation, then split out the pages a client should see.
- Fix orientation, then stamp page numbers with Add header & footer if you need “Page X of Y” on the upright pages.
Limits and related guides
- Not an OCR tool and not a photo rotator for JPEGs sitting inside the PDF as already-upright pixels with a lying flag.
- Password PDFs are refused. Unlock first.
- Keep the original until you have visually checked every rotated page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does rotating a PDF upload the file?
No. Rotation runs in this tab with pdf-lib. Close the tab to drop the document from memory.
Does this re-encode every page as an image?
No. It updates the page rotate attribute. Text usually stays selectable. A scan stored as upside-down pixels may still look wrong until you rotate the image itself.
Can I rotate only one page in a 40-page file?
Yes. Enter that page number (for example 7) and leave the angle at 90°, 180°, or 270°. Other pages stay as they were.
How do I rotate counter-clockwise?
Choose 270° clockwise, which is a 90° turn the other way. There is no separate counter-clockwise button.
Will a digital signature still validate?
Usually not. Any rewrite typically invalidates a cryptographic signature. Rotate a copy of a signed file.
Why did an encrypted PDF fail?
This tool does not unlock passwords. Open the file in a desktop reader, save an unlocked copy, and drop that copy here.
