Word to PDF
This converter turns a .docx file into a PDF without sending the document to FlashKit or to a paid conversion API. The browser unzips the WordprocessingML package, reads headings, paragraphs, and simple lists, and lays them out with pdf-lib. That is the right tool for a text-heavy draft, a letter, or meeting notes you do not want sitting on someone else’s server. It is the wrong tool if you need Microsoft Word’s “Save as PDF” fidelity for a legal form, a newsletter, or SmartArt.
Save as .docx from Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice first. Legacy .doc (the pre-2007 binary) is rejected with an explicit error — re-save as .docx. Password-protected packages are not supported. After convert, the page shows any notes the layout engine recorded (skipped objects, missing glyphs) plus a download. Proofread the PDF. Helvetica, the standard PDF font used here, cannot draw every Unicode character; many CJK, Arabic, and emoji glyphs become “?”.
What usually works: Title and Heading styles, body paragraphs, simple bullets, and a best-effort embed of PNG or JPEG images. What is simplified or dropped: complex tables, text boxes, SmartArt, comments, headers and footers, tracked changes, columns, theme fonts, and most floating layout. That list is documented because fake “perfect Word clone” claims waste people’s time. If layout is critical, keep the desktop export as the source of truth and use this page only when privacy of the draft matters more than pixel-perfect spacing.
Files over about 25 MB warn that a phone may freeze. There is no cloud renderer to lean on. Going the other way — PDF to editable Word — is a different job and a different FlashKit guide; this page will not reconstruct a .docx from a PDF. After you have a PDF, you can split, rotate, merge, or compress it locally with the sibling tools. None of those upload the file either.
Compared with Smallpdf or ILovePDF Word converters, the honest difference is architecture: they typically upload, convert on a server, and expire the file. FlashKit unzips on your device and tells you what it cannot draw. Read the Word-to-PDF how-to and the FlashKit vs Smallpdf guide if you are choosing a tool for a confidential draft.
How to Use
- Save the document as .docx (Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice). Legacy .doc is not supported.
- Drop the file here. Nothing is uploaded to FlashKit. Encrypted packages fail.
- Click convert and wait. The layout runs in this tab with pdf-lib.
- Read any on-page notes (skipped tables, missing glyphs), then download the PDF.
- Proofread. If spacing, tables, or fonts must match Word exactly, use a desktop export instead.
Key Features
- Fully client-side — unzip + pdf-lib, no paid API
- Headings, paragraphs, and simple bullets
- Best-effort PNG/JPEG image embed
- Documented limits instead of a fake “perfect Word clone” claim
- Legacy .doc and encrypted files are refused up front
Fidelity: what you should expect
- Heading styles become larger PDF text. Theme fonts generally become Helvetica.
- Simple lists keep their bullets; nested multi-level lists may flatten.
- Images that are ordinary PNG/JPEG in the package may embed; EMF/WMF drawings often will not.
- Tables more complex than a few rows are the first thing to inspect after download.
- Headers, footers, comments, and tracked changes are not a second PDF layer — they are dropped or inlined poorly. Assume they are gone.
Privacy and file rules
- The .docx never leaves this browser for FlashKit. Unzip happens on your device.
- There is no third-party conversion vendor on this page.
- Close the tab to drop the file from memory. Download first.
- .doc (not .docx) is rejected. Re-save in Word or Docs.
- A 25 MB warning means your phone may run out of RAM, not that a server quota tripped.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this match Microsoft Word’s Save as PDF?
No. Word’s exporter keeps advanced layout. This tool is for a readable local PDF of text-heavy drafts when you do not want to send the file to a server.
Is the Word file uploaded?
No. The .docx is unzipped in this tab and drawn with pdf-lib. There is no conversion API. Close the tab to drop the file.
Why do some letters become question marks?
Standard PDF fonts are WinAnsi Helvetica. Many CJK, Arabic, and emoji characters cannot be drawn without embedding a custom font, which this page does not ship.
Do you support .doc or password-protected files?
No. Re-save as an unlocked .docx first. The UI errors on legacy .doc instead of silently failing.
Can I convert PDF back to Word here?
No. That is a different problem (reconstructing editable XML from a print format). See the PDF to Word guide and only use a converter you are allowed to feed that file.
Are tables and headers preserved?
Simple content may survive; complex tables, headers/footers, text boxes, and SmartArt are simplified or dropped. Proofread, and keep a desktop PDF if layout is contractual.
