How to Convert Word (DOCX) to PDF in the Browser (2026)

This is the opposite of PDF to Word. You have an editable .docx and you need a PDF you can attach. FlashKit’s Word to PDF tool unzips the document in this tab and lays out paragraphs with pdf-lib. There is no conversion API and the file is not uploaded to FlashKit.

What you should expect

Reasonable fidelity for titles, headings, body paragraphs, and simple lists. Complex tables, text boxes, SmartArt, comments, headers/footers, tracked changes, and most Word theme fonts are simplified or dropped. Standard PDF fonts are WinAnsi — many CJK, Arabic, and emoji characters become “?”. This is not Microsoft Word’s Save as PDF.

Convert a .docx locally

Drop an unlocked .docx. Proofread the PDF. Legacy .doc is not supported.

Open Word to PDF

Step-by-step

  1. Save as .docx from Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice. A legacy .doc will be rejected.
  2. Drop the file on Word to PDF. Over 25 MB can freeze a phone tab.
  3. Convert and download. Read the on-page notes — they list what was flattened or skipped.
  4. Proofread. If the layout is a legal form or a designed newsletter, keep the desktop export as the source of truth.

After you have a PDF

What stays in the browser

FlashKit’s split, rotate, merge, compress, and Word-to-PDF tools run in the current tab with pdf-lib (Word-to-PDF also unzips the .docx locally). Those pages do not upload the file to FlashKit. Encrypted PDFs are rejected. A crashed or closed tab drops the in-memory copy. Other FlashKit tools — SEO audits, social downloaders, Gemini captions — do use the network after a disclosure. Do not treat the whole site as “never sends data.”
